Actelis’ Eric Vallone discusses T1.417 and backhauling solutions.View at TMCnet >>
Overview
Actelis Networks’ Ethernet over copper solutions, now with our patented Dynamic Rate Boost (DRB) and enhanced Dynamic Spectral Shaping (DSS) technology, are “Reaching New Heights,” providing service providers, enterprises and the public sector with the highest Rate, Reach, Rate and…ROI…in the industry! With the ability to provide unmatched bandwidth at 15Mbps per single copper pair, Actelis is enabling delivery of high-speed connectivity and next-generation broadband services that are fast, secure and highly reliable. Actelis’ Ethernet solutions are used by our customers to build Dedicated Networks, DSLAM Backhaul, Mobile Backhaul, Metro Ethernet Extension, Transparent LAN and Transportation (ITS) networks. Below you’ll find further discussion on these solutions, including quick links to jump to specific solutions pages.
Backhaul Solutions
Suburban and rural communities are demanding enhanced broadband services with higher speeds and increased reliability regardless of their proximity. Mobile communications continue to grow at staggering rates, while Muti-dwelling Units (MDU) / Muti-tenant Units (MTU) need broadband connections to support all the businesses within their buildings and campuses. And if that's not enough, WiFi hot spots are popping up at retail outlets, airports, shopping malls and numerous other businesses. Legacy solutions (e.g. T1/E1 circuits) are also inadequate, with the coverage density not justifying cost-prohibitive fiber buildouts. With the greatest rate, reach and reliability in the industry, Actelis Networks’ backhauling solutions significantly extend and enhance broadband services to cover the customer serving area, enabling delivery of higher bandwidth solutions easily and economically.
Dedicated Networks
A dedicated network is one that is dedicated to a specific entity or application, in contrast with a shared network, like the Internet. While such a network does not automatically imply a single, discrete end-to-end cable, it does provide constant bandwidth and other capabilities not available over a more public network. The rationale for using a dedicated network instead of a shared network includes considerations for security of data, resiliency and Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. Dedicated networks are most often used by the military, government, public safety, schools and enterprises with multiple campuses where confidentiality, data integrity and high availability are crucial. The combination of Actelis’ next-generation EADs, enhanced aggregations solutions, repeaters and Network Management systems can be quickly and rapidly deployed to cost effectively build such networks.
Enterprise
As enterprises continue to increase their dependence on network-based applications like Voice over IP (VoIP), video conferencing, file sharing, cloud computing, and even video surveillance and dynamic message signs, the quality and reliability of the underlying network becomes more and more critical. The network must be able to cost effectively meet the bandwidth demands that legacy solutions (i.e. E1/T1 circuits) can no longer meet.
Educational institutions, typically on the leading edge of adopting advanced broadband solutions for improved communications and safety for faculty and students alike, can neither rely on legacy E1/T1-based services nor justify mass deployments of cost-prohibitive, fiber-based solutions. Applications such as distance learning, on-campus security surveillance and video conferencing are driving demand for cost-effective, additional bandwidth that is fast, reliable and secure.
And whether it’s a financial services company requiring secure, private connectivity between headquarters and branch offices, or a health care company implementing Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems or working toward compliance with HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations, Actelis’ industry-leading product portfolio of Ethernet access devices, aggregations systems and repeaters provide the ideal solution with speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
Actelis’ family of repeaters, with built-in, patented enhanced DSS technology, allows even higher bandwidth services to be introduced into the network. Actelis’ XR239 EFM Repeaters, now in their fifth generation, support up to 15Mbps per single copper pair. Actelis’ DSS technology, when implemented side by side with Actelis’ XR239 EFM Repeaters, greatly reduce the impact on ADSL/ADSL2+ services beyond standard requirements without sacrificing Actelis’ EFM performance.

Increased reliance on IP-based, bandwidth-dependant applications such as cloud computing, video conferencing and file sharing has created an insatiable appetite for bandwidth among small and large businesses. Legacy solutions (e.g.T1/E1 circuits) are no longer sufficient to deliver the necessary bandwidth, and the return on investment (ROI) on laying new fiber does not justify greenfield fiber buildouts. The good news is that there is an approach that cost effectively meets the demand for the additional bandwidth—Actelis’ field-proven and industry-leading Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ solutions, which can easily meet the demand for advanced broadband services by simply and economically leveraging the existing copper plant in the network.
With Actelis' Carrier Ethernet over Copper solutions, service providers can now cost-effectively deliver scalable, high-quality Ethernet services to their customers using the existing copper infrastructure. Actelis Networks ML series of Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) can deliver up to 100 Mbps of Ethernet services over existing copper pairs. Lab and field-proven, they cost-effectively deliver more high-quality bandwidth to more customers than any other high-bandwidth solution over copper. By using the existing copper to deliver high-bandwidth services, service providers can eliminate the costs associated with trenching fiber for broadband services, along with providing highly reliable broadband services that wireless solutions do not offer. And since the ML EADs provide high-quality bandwidth, they are ideal to support a wide range of voice, video and data applications.
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) & Video Surveillance
ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) networking can include applications for managing traffic controllers, cameras that monitor intersections, video surveillance, speed sensors, emergency response systems and parking guidance systems. These types of applications are usually operated by municipalities, which typically own or have inexpensive access to existing copper plant. This makes Actelis Networks’ Ethernet solutions the ideal choice for ITS networking. Whether the application involves Automated Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Dynamic Message Signs, Red Light Speed Enforcement, Video Detection & Surveillance, or WiFi deployments, Actelis’ product portfolio can be quickly and rapidly deployed to cost effectively build ITS networks.
A heightened focus on safety and the widespread availability of IP cameras has sparked a boom in Video Surveillance in public places, private enterprises and schools. Live and recorded footage is now routinely accessed and analyzed anywhere, at any time. Actelis Networks’ product portfolio provides the critical components to implement such solutions in a large campus or multi-campus environment, as well as on the street. Learn more…
