Dedicated Networks: Military
Military Solutions
Secure dedicated broadband connectivity is critical for military operations in both war zone and base area. In either case, dedicated connectivity is preferred over shared public resources, both to restrict opportunity for eavesdropping or tampering with secure messages, and to maximize reliability of transmission. In many military applications, even the hallowed “five nines” level of availability is not good enough.
In the base environment, the requirement is likely to be for secure broadband access to the main data center where sensitive documents and battle plans will be held. Traditionally, the armed forces have deployed trenched fiber out to each location, or else had to fall back on a low-speed copper-based system that could barely be called broadband. While the latter is running out of steam for modern military applications that involve ever more video and high-resolution images, trenching fiber is not always feasible because of the cost and time it takes to deploy.
In war zones, time to deployment is especially critical, since communications links often need to be set up and torn down at short notice, especially as an army advances or retreats in the field. Here, too, large amounts of data, including video and photos, may need to be transmitted to and from headquarters quickly. Communications links in the field also need to be rugged and protected from environmental insults such as heat or lightning strikes. With Actelis Networks’ ML series of Ethernet Access Devices (EADs), military organizations can immediately deploy high-quality, high-bandwidth broadband links using the existing copper infrastructure. The award-winning ML EAD platform is rugged and able to deliver up to 100 Mbps of bandwidth for Ethernet, TDM or ATM services over existing copper pairs. Time-tested and field-proven, our EADs can cost-effectively deliver more high-quality bandwidth to more locations than any other copper-based broadband solution. By using the existing copper to deliver high-bandwidth services, military organizations can immediately establish secure broadband links that can support voice, data and video applications in a matter of minutes.
