Enterprise: Education

The education market is one of the biggest markets striving to get more bandwidth in order to satisfy their need for emerging, multimedia-rich applications. Schools have the bandwidth requirements of large businesses but are typically located in residential neighborhoods, where fiber is not normally available. They have an acute need for next-generation Ethernet services to support applications such as remote learning, district-wide classroom collaboration, and integration of the classroom and home environment.

Most schools, however, lack access to affordable broadband services. Legacy E1/T1-based services are expensive and inadequate for these applications, while some schools have had to rely on slow dial-up services. Only a small minority of schools have access to fiber today.

Carrier Ethernet services provide the bandwidth that education systems need to support the next-generation applications like distance learning, on-campus security surveillance, broadband  Internet access, and  classroom-to-classroom  video conferencing. Many service providers struggle to deliver Ethernet due to the lack of fiber availability to the schools. By deploying Actelis’ Carrier Ethernet over Copper solutions, which includes our Ethernet-in-the-Mile XR239 Repeaters, Ethernet over copper services can reach up to 10miles/16Km from central offices with providing schools with services of up to 100 Mbps.
