Remote Video MonitoringThe proliferation of remote IP devices has brought great benefits for many applications, but also created headaches fors network administrators in collecting the data reliably and cost effectively from the field. Cost of deployment is often the major issue, given the numbers of these devices, followed by security and reliability. Video cameras are the most important class of remote IP device, for a wide variety of applications including traffic speed limit or stop light enforcement, deterrence and detection of crime in subways or shopping precincts, and monitoring large crowds. Many such locations are already reached by copper wiring, making this the most cost-effective option for linking up such devices. The Actelis MetaLIGHT (ML) range is perfectly suited to hooking up IP devices, typically with a multipoint system installed at a control and monitoring station, fanning out to multiple point-to-point ML systems serving different remote sites. At the remote site, the ML system can be attached to a LAN serving a number of IP devices or sensors, such as thermometers and air pollution detectors, as well as cameras. |
