Government - Municipal

Many municipalities have a variety of departments connected by low-speed WAN circuits that are running out of capacity and are simply unable to meet growing requirements from multimedia applications, including video conferencing and Voice-over-IP (VOIP). These municipalities often own their own copper infrastructure and have the opportunity to continue leveraging that network without the need to incur the unnecessary expense of deploying fiber.

Actelis Networks’ Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ platforms provide the ideal solution, upgrading capacity over existing copper wires to create high-speed bonded circuits up to 100 Mbps. In this way a high-speed extended Ethernet network interconnecting all departments, including police, fire, emergency care, and library, as well as City Hall, can be created and scaled up when traffic increases.

Typically, the municipality would deploy an Ethernet aggregation switch, such as our ML130, at the headquarters, connecting several sites in a unified municipal network over the copper infrastructure. This provides a highly flexible network, enabling individual departments to connect with each other or with City Hall with access to all the applications deployed within the municipality’s IT system. Similarly, existing copper pairs can be used to connect the growing population of IP devices installed by municipalities out in the field, such as cameras for monitoring stop signals or public safety. In these cases Actelis point-to-point ML systems would be deployed alongside these devices in the field.

The copper infrastructure can also be used to interconnect larger offices and sites within a campus or local exchange area through bonding of multiple pairs to create higher bandwidth circuits up to 100 Mbps. These circuits would be configured with multipoint-to-multipoint ML systems to support bonding. Such circuits could also be used to backhaul traffic from concentration points leading to small sites or devices in the field such as traffic cameras.
