Enterprise Site Interconnection Over E1/T1

Many enterprises have Ethernet LANs and PBXs connected via T1/E1 services, and are not yet ready to upgrade equipment such as routers for migration to an end-to-end IP/Ethernet network. Such enterprises can still benefit from the higher bandwidth and lower costs of Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) over copper to interconnect two sites within a campus or exchange area. In a campus the enterprise may already have access to a private copper infrastructure, in which case the deployment of Actelis ML series of Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) will achieve a substantial gain in bandwidth, up to 8 fold, compared with T1/E1 over the same pairs. Even when the sites are being connected over “dry copper” from the local incumbent service provider, the enterprise will still enjoy cost savings.

The key point is that Actelis ML EADs support attachment of T1/E1, as well as Ethernet CPE equipment. Therefore, enterprises can hook up PBXs and IP/Ethernet routers directly to the ML systems via their T1/E1 ports without any change, allowing up to 100 Mbps between sites, compared with just 6 Mbps over the same infrastructure in the case of T1.
