Actelis Networks Simplifies Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery With New EFM Loop Analyzer

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 28, 2007 - Actelis Networks®, the leading global supplier of Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ solutions, today announced at OSP Expo the availability of its new EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) Loop Analyzer™, an advanced diagnostic tool that dramatically simplifies carrier Ethernet over copper deployments. Actelis’ EFM Loop Analyzer is an automated test tool that includes a suite of loop qualification and diagnostic tests, along with troubleshooting capabilities, for copper plant. The tool was developed to support Actelis’ Carrier Ethernet over Copper product portfolio, including the suite of ML600 Ethernet access devices, ML130 and ML2300 copper aggregation switches, and the company’s XR239 EFM Repeater. The EFM Loop Analyzer is designed to be used in concert with Actelis’ network element management software application, MetaASSIST™ View, to analyze and troubleshoot copper loops being used to deliver carrier Ethernet access services.

“Carrier Ethernet O.A.M. (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) provides a solid set of management capabilities necessary for successfully deploying and managing large access networks,” said Mehmet Balos, president of worldwide marketing, sales and services at Actelis. “However, the intricacies of copper plant require focused tools and analysis equipment to support the increasingly growing size of deployments around the world.” Actelis’ EFM Loop Analyzer is a specially designed tool for simplifying loop qualification with a suite of measurement tools, including an integrated TDR (Time-Domain Reflectometer) for accurately measuring cable distances, detecting shorts and checking signal continuity between loop spans. It also provides access analysis points for inserting up to four repeated spans and a distance simulator for analyzing performance at increased distance.

Actelis’ EFM Loop Analyzer has a variety of operating modes so that it can be deployed at the central office, remote customer premises or mid-span between the central office and the remote location, enabling a full range of diagnostic and fault isolation.

“Our new EFM Loop Analyzer will dramatically reduce the time and cost to qualify new loops for deploying carrier Ethernet services,” added Balos, “and troubleshoot those loops in the event of a fault in an in-service network. We believe investing in the development of a sophisticated EFM Loop Analyzer is evidence of Actelis’ commitment to our customers continued success, and speaks to the partnerships we have developed with our valued service provider customers who are accelerating the deployment of carrier Ethernet access around the world.”
