"In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, a good education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity, it is a pre-requisite. That is why it will be the goal of this Administration to ensure that every child has access to a complete and competitive education – from the day they are born to the day they begin a career."

President Barack Obama
Address to Joint Session of Congress, February 24, 2009

Included in the $787 billion “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009”, signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, the ARRA will provide more than $100 billion in education funding. The appropriated dollars will be used, for example, to upgrade and build new classrooms and facilities, provide teacher and faculty salaries, and fund student scholarships. From a telecom perspective, awards will also be used by the U.S. Department of Education, which will work with each state to upgrade data systems and network infrastructures.

Actelis Networks® believes the education system is one of the largest sectors striving to get more bandwidth. Our nation’s primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, universities and trade schools, have an acute need for next-generation IP-based Ethernet services to support applications like remote learning, district-wide classroom collaboration, and integration of the classroom and home environment. Today, in fact, most schools are now posting curriculums on Web sites for students to follow and even download assignments.

Unfortunately, there is also the need for the utmost security, resulting from the tragic events at Columbine High School and Virginia Tech University. Mix in the never-ending demand for campuswide data services, and you’ve got a tremendous challenge facing the U.S. education system: how to quickly and cost effectively upgrade their network infrastructures and data systems to meet the needs of the 21st century.

Actelis’ Ethernet over copper products continue to be a phenomenal solution for the education sector, consolidating all security, data, video and voice services over a converged, secure and cost-effective infrastructure. With most schools and universities already owning the copper wires within their campuses, Actelis’ comprehensive Ethernet over copper portfolio offers the perfect solution for powering a single, scalable, and yet inexpensive broadband network.

Our Ethernet over copper solutions will continue to provide pragmatic solutions for the education sector, and we believe they will make the best use of your ARRA award(s) by leveraging your existing copper network. By doing so, schools can deliver more services and more applications to more students and faculty members—all while ensuring state-of-the-art security.

Together, we can rebuild our nation’s schools.
